Ganesh chaturthi also known as “Vinayak Chaturthi” is one of the most esteemed festivals of Hindu tradition. In India, SriLanka and Nepal the festival of lord Ganesha’s birthday is celebrated with much enthusiasm. The festival is a 10-day long celebration to honor lord Ganpati which is a symbol of prosperity and auspiciousness.
The festival starts on the fourth day of Hindu month Bhadrapada ( which typically falls in the mid of August or September). People bring Lord Ganesha’s clay idols to their home and worship him for the duration of the festival. On the 10th day of Festival “Anant Chaturdashi”, people immerse Ganesha’s idol into rivers with a grand celebration with a hope that the lord will come back next year to bless his devotees.
