Virat Kohli is certainly the most iconic cricketer to come out of the Indian cricketing system in the last few years and that is unquestionable considering that he has achieved everything as a player that there is to achieve in the game of cricket. However, he has seen something of a dip in form lately and has been waiting for a 100 at the international level since the year 2019. A two-year dip in form has also seen him go through a period of criticism for his captaincy where an emergence of the leader Rohit Sharma has put a lot of pressure on him.
It is no secret that Virat and quite frankly all the other cricketers of his generation have grown up during their earlier years idolizing Sachin Tendulkar however none of us have seen a career mirror the great man’s career as much as Virat’s has. The two have been the number 4 batsmen for India and have also been the most important brands for the game in the last few years. Now, with the captaincy being questioned, we are seeing Virat take a similar step to what Sachin had done earlier.
Sachin was never the most efficient captain in his time. Even though his record wasn’t bad at all, there was an inability to be calm during the big occasions which made people question the captaincy of this great man. The captaincy was also a burden on him as it is expected to be for every player and with captaincy on his shoulder, he suffered a drop in form as well. Of all the people, Sachin was the first to recognize this and he let go of the captaincy role as soon as he could and was then the most influential player of the team.
While cricket comes naturally to both these players, perhaps being a resource rather than a manager of men may just take the pressure of both these people. Those who follow the Indian cricket prediction would be in shock with the announcement of Virat Kohli and him leaving the captaincy of the T20 national team and the franchise team in order to prolong his career and handle the pressure of the international cricket demands.
There is a T20 world cup to focus for now and an IPL where he is playing currently and if both these tournaments turn out to be luck for Virat he may be able to wash off a criticism which has haunted him for a very long time. The criticism of not being able to win enough trophies. The trophies are definitely something that have evaded him. As a player he is a winner of the champion’s trophy and the world cup but as a captain the only major trophy he has in his name is the Under 19 world cup and he hasn’t really won anything even though the team has performed well and been regularly reaching the semi finals and the finals. This is a common attribute whether it comes to the world cup, the champions trophy or the World test championship or the times when he has been able to reach the IPL finals and semifinals. This is where Rohit has thrived and has succeeded in winning the top titles and performed in the big games a lot better than Virat has. Rohit has managed the only ICC trophy win that we have had recently in the form of the Asia cup and also has a staggering 5 IPL trophies to his name. He is definitely a captain who would be looking to replace Virat once he is gone.
